ESG & Carbon Claims Policy

Last updated: 28 August 2025Effective date: 28 August 2025

1. Purpose

This ESG & Carbon Claims Policy explains how Hazelbit SRL measures, reports, and communicates the environmental and social impact of our hazelnut plantation projects. It also clarifies the limits of such claims and ensures transparency in line with EU sustainability reporting standards and international ESG best practices.

2. Scope

This Policy applies to:

• Hazelbit Certificates (digital ESG Impact Tree Certificates).

• NFTs with environmental attributes (e.g., trees symbolized by $HZTR).

• Corporate ESG purchases (bulk tree sponsorships for CSR reporting).

3. Methodology of CO₂ impact estimation

Baseline calculation

• Each hazelnut tree is estimated to capture an average of ~60 kg CO₂/year, based on published agronomic studies of Corylus avellana orchards in Eastern Europe.

• This figure is an indicative average, not a precise measurement for each individual tree.

Adjustments

• Yield and sequestration vary with soil, climate, irrigation, and age.

• Hazelbit periodically reviews assumptions with agronomists and may update values.

Verification

• Hazelbit Certificates include blockchain TxIDs for traceability.

• Hazelbit may partner with independent auditors to verify plantation management practices.

4. Nature of ESG Certificates

• Hazelbit Certificates are not "carbon credits" recognized under Kyoto Protocol, Paris Agreement, or UNFCCC mechanisms.

• Certificates cannot be used for official carbon offsetting in regulated markets.

• They are impact documentation designed for corporate CSR reports, ESG disclosures, and marketing purposes.

5. Corporate use in ESG reporting

Companies may use Hazelbit Certificates for:

• CSR & ESG sustainability reports.

• Voluntary disclosure frameworks (e.g., GRI, SASB, CSRD).

• Stakeholder communication (website, social media, annual reports).

Limitations:

• Hazelbit does not certify "net zero" status.

• Companies must not present Hazelbit Certificates as regulated offsets unless explicitly allowed under local law.

6. Harvest Benefit and ESG link

Where NFTs include a Harvest Benefit, ESG impact is twofold:

Carbon sequestration

via tree growth

Food production

via sustainable hazelnut farming

However, Hazelbit does not guarantee financial value or ESG scoring assigned by third parties.

7. Social impact

Hazelbit plantations generate additional positive effects:

Local employment

in Moldova and Romania

Sustainable agriculture

support

Biodiversity-friendly

farming practices

8. Limitations & disclaimers

• All ESG data is indicative and based on averages, not individual measurement.

• Hazelbit makes no guarantee of official recognition by regulators or tax authorities.

• ESG values may change over time due to new scientific research.

• Hazelbit is not liable for reliance on Certificates in regulated carbon markets.

9. Marketing & communication rules

• Certificates may be shared in CSR materials, websites, and PR campaigns.

• Claims must be limited to "Hazelbit-certified tree sponsorship" or "indicative CO₂ sequestration of approx. 60 kg/year."

• Misrepresentation (e.g., claiming official carbon credits) is prohibited.
